Winter, 2006
Hello, Everyone!
This will be an abbreviated HartNews edition because though I want to keep sending out the issues and doing demos, I am recovering from a December back surgery. I'm so excited that the surgery is looking like it'll put me back in great shape for the workshops ahead! As some of you who came to workshops or were with me in 2005 know, the year was quite challenging. An old injury defect and sciatic scar tissue finally made it impossible to walk or teach without constant pain. I had to pospone my beloved Costa Rica workshop and have surgery. But - the outlook is great and I and my dog, Livvie are walking farther and farther each day! I recently received a "thumbs up" from my doctor and he even said that I could ride my horse, Hoppy, on July 1! So - I walk and exercise now to strengthen my legs so I can meet the July 1 goal!

Welcome to HartNews, Volume 06, Issue 1!
So...What is HartNews? HartNews is my attempt to write about life and watercolor from where I see it. As a teacher, I enjoy passing on some of the things I think about or do in watercolor. As a fellow human, I wish to pass on some of the things that inspire me - or make me laugh!. I've included you in this issue - you who are painters, friends, former guests and/or family - some of you without your expressed permission. So
please reply and ask to be removed from this mailing list if you'd rather not get HartNews editions - or just delete me! Originally, I intended to make HartNews a monthly event. Now, more realistically, I see it as a quarterly or bi-annual publication. If you have something you'd like add or say, just email me! and please feel free to pass this on to your friends... If you'd like to see the back issues - just check the Archives above - more demos, etc. - and don't forget to Bookmark this issue! |

The Jan Hart Medical Fund On-Line Auction and Show
It began when some of my local continuing and former students suggestd a Fundraiser Show to help me with my Medical bills from the past year. I know I am not alone in the dilemma of self employed people who cannot get insurance due to their Medical past. Nine years ago I was forced into bankruptcy - but that option is not available any more without risking the loss of my home and studio and cabins, which are my sources of income. Rather than ask people to donate and receive nothing in return, we came up with the idea of a Show here in my studio (Mar 24,25) and an On-Line Auction Benefit for those who live farther away. If we sell something on the Web before the show, obviously it won't be offered at the show. Now I am busy finishing some paintings, signing studies and demos, etc. I will be offering some finshed and framed paintings of mine for greatly reduced prices - i.e. under $600. My friends are donating their art, matting some of my demos and studies which will be offered at affordable Buy Now prices ranging from $85 - up - as well as for bids. It gives me an opportunity to offer some of my work affordably. I am so appreciative of the intentions and help during this time of recovery.
Below are some of the studies, demos and paintings that will be up on line for the Jan Hart Medical Fund On Line Auction beginning March 10. My son, Jay is doing the webpage which will be linked to my website's opening page.
If you would like to donate a painting for the Show or On-Line Auction, please contact Mary Caarol Williams by email here. We will be pleased to place a link from any painting donated to the artist's website and to add that website link to Links and Favorites on my site.

For the past 10 years, Jan has been teaching week long workshops she calls "On the Trail of O'Keeffe" - based at Ghost Ranch. Because of recent changes at Ghost Ranch and Jan's place, Ranchito San Pedro - four seasonally specific workshops are now offered by Jan & Carol which will add richness, variety and still be based on Georgia O'Keeffe's life & lessons!
