Welcome to my teaching studio and garden at Ranchito San Pedro, Española, New Mexico

"As a teacher, it is my desire to share whatever I know about watercolor with my students - not to have them paint like me, but to enable them to express in their own individual ways. I love watercolor. I'll never completely master it - and that's the way I like it. For me, it is the joy of the process, of watching the paints move in the water and shape a painting."

Exceptional Color Workshop

Using information and painting ideas from her book, “A Watercolorist’s Guide to Exceptional Color”, Jan Hart’s workshop is about color and watercolor pigments and how to use what you know to create powerful watercolors! Beginning with how we see color, students will learn about color schemes, mixing, pigment choices and experiment with some new pigments. A workshop with Jan is upbeat, positive and includes one on one instruction as well as informative critiques. Don’t miss this opportunity to understand color and color relationships in your work!

You can see Jan’s work on her web site, janhart.com.

Costa Rica

February, 2009

a 9 day painting workshop in beautiful Costa Rica with Jan

The location is selected and we've got the the itinerary!. We'll be staying at incredible Sombra de Lapas (Shade of the Scarlet Macaws) on the Osa Penninsula, high above the beach (for cooler breezes) and surrounded by primary rainforest jungle and more birds & flowers than you can ever imagine! All the details here

I'm building an email list of those who are interested. Please send me an email and I'll put you on the list to be notified when we have more definite plans - probably in late March, 2008.

Email me here.

I am currently investigating the possibilities for a workshop that will be based near San Jose, Costa Rica with access to the incredible flora, fauna and colors that abound in this rich and varied locale. Prospects are great and this is one of my favorite places! Check out our 2007 and 2005 workshops. I'll begin the process of laying out the itinerary when I return from Costa Rica in March, 2008.

A Costa Rican Colorwheel breakfast - every day!!!

Capuchin monkeys play above!

This mated pair of scarlet macaws flew over the first morning. Their nest is in a tree nearby.

Orchids everywhere!

Toucan love in the branches above. We'll paint them!

Italy

September, 2010 imagine yourself painting & playing for10 days - in Tuscany!

I'm starting an email list of those who may be interested. Please send me an email and I'll put you on the list to be notified when we have more definite plans.

Email me here.

Located near a small town with pre-Roman origins, this old Mill House is located in still a relatively undiscovered part of Italy where the cobblestones are not polished by thousands of tourist footfalls.

Urbino is nearby and will definitely be included in the itinerary. I remember this beautiful mountain walled city from a visit 20 years ago - and can hardly wait to return.

The beautiful hill towns of Tuscany and the gentle rolling hills will provide wonderful inspiration for our paintings!
