Jan Hart's Costa Rica Watercolor Adventure- day by incredible day. January 29 - February 7, 2010
@ Sombra de la Lapa on the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica
"This is an adventure painting trip that I hope to continue every year as long as I can. It energizes my creative spirit and teaches me more about color and color relationships than I have ever learned elsewhere - while the wonderful array of wildlife makes me remember that I am a part of the whole. Last year's trip was fantastic and this year will be even better!"

Friday, January 29 Arrive in Costa Rica
-
Arrival of all parties
to Costa Rica. We will plan to arrive in San Jose (SJO) on the evening of Friday, January 30. A 5 minute cab ride will get you to the Vida Tropical B&B where you will be greeted by Jan and the Tropical gang! Most all flights arrive late in the evening. We'll meet and greet and then get some rest. High speed WiFi Internet available.
Day 1. Saturday, January 30 To the Osa Peninsula& Sombra de la Lapa. COLORS
- After a restful night, we’ll be up for our first Costa Rican full breakfast with exotic seasonal fruits, omelette bar, fresh baked bread, organic eggs, jams & jellies and fruit filled pancakes..
- After breakfast we'll be off to the airport to catch a Nature Air flight over Costa Rica to the Osa Peninsula. We'll fly into the sleepy beach town of Puerto Jimenez and be driven by taxi up through the jungle to Sombra de la Lapa Eco-Lodge, which will be our home for the next week. There we'll meet our hosts, Rebecca and Mike. Mike is an amazing, creative artist who will be joining us often - and Rebecca is an artist in cookery - can you just imagine mango bread?
- Rebecca and Mike will acquaint us with our new home and treat us to a garden walk with our new color wheels (from Jan) & new color vision. Jan will offer color notes and composition/design ideas as we go. Bring your camera!
- Before dinner, Jan will show a slide show on Color and Pigments - to help us drench our dreams in Costa Rica hues! Remember to bring along your copy of Jan's book, The Watercolor Artist's Guide to Exceptional Color. (Jan will have some extras on hand)
Day 2, Sunday, January 31 Color continued, Light, Shade, Shadows and Reflected Light

- Subject for Today will continue with COLOR as well as Light, Shade, Shadow & Reflected Light
- Jan will demo a floral subject from our garden walk yesterday.

- Or you may decide to paint in the fruit orchard or down by the Macaw nest.
- Or sleep for awhile in a hammock while listening to the jungle chatter.
- We may decide to meet for a pool critique before dinner. What is a pool critique? That is where we line up the paintings on the deck and critique from inside the pool!
Day 5, Wednesday, Feb. 3 Animals

After a trip in 2005, Dee Ritchie wrote: "Everything about this trip exceeded my expectations by orders of magnitude! I knew it would be fun and interesting, but everything about Costa Rica was brighter, softer, gentler, slower, sweeter, and more colorful than I could have imagined. There is a lifetime of gorgeous scenery to paint... sunsets, tropical flowers, mountainous coastlines, colorful birds... the most challenging part is deciding what to tackle first! Jan, I am eternally grateful for making me "see" in splendiferous back-lit technicolor! Howling monkeys, curious toucans, huge blue butterflies and soft tropical breezes... Why did we have to leave?" |
