Some Questions & Answers

Jan's teaching studio / gallery (above) and a rising thunderhead beyond the casitas.

The Casitas (formerly known as Cabins)

They began life as a turkey barn which was later converted to a working studio for Joe DiGangi, a well known knife designer. After purchasing the place I used my architectural background to convert the very rustic studio spaces into 2 roomy private cabins. The bathrooms & bedrooms are located at opposite ends for privacy; both casitas share a laundry room. The low windows and humble nature are preserved along with some touches of New Mexican style created by builder, Sabino Talavera. This was my dream come true! Gay community always welcome!

The new floors and wonderful colors transform the spaces while exciting the eye! Above, the kitchen with bedroom beyond. Right, looking from the living area past the stepped half wall with hidden bookcase toward doors to bath and extra studio room.

Casita #1

Cabin #1 is fun and whimsical tuned offhandedly to the old southwest with reminders of cowboys, cowgirls and the 50's. The open living area contains a TV/VCR and a futon couch for extra sleeping space as well as a full kitchen with microwave, blender and french press coffee maker! The separate bedroom sports a quilt covered double bed. In the attached studio are tables, full spectrum lights, north windows and a skylight as well as an extra futon couch. Adjoining the studio is the laundry room with washer/dryer. An east facing enclosed patio space provides a private outdoor "room" with an adjacent fenced yard for your dog. And we're busy putting in a south paved patio and indigienous landscaping!

Casual & comfortable with an old 50's Western theme....

Left - The north facing studio boasts a skylight, sink and plenty of space for painting, drawing, relaxing - or to use as a second bedroom with futon bed. Below - The Master bedroom, with handmade quilt is surrounded by a privacy fence for the adjacent east facing patio area.

Casita #2

Simple & Elegant with Santa Fe style
touches

Casita #2 is sunny and so comfortable. From the curved stepped half wall with its nicho and hidden bookcase to the drop leaf pine table, care has been taken to create a cozy yet functional living space. The living area features a TV/VCR, desk, futon couch for an extra sleeping area and comfortable reading chair. The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, french press coffee maker, stove/oven and spice rack. The adjacent south facing studio is flooded with sunshine in the winter but sheltered from the high New Mexico summer sun. There is also an extra futon couch.. The laundry room adjoins the studio. A paisley comforter covers the queen sized bed next to an old wood wall in the bedroom. And your dog will enjoy the secure dog door in the bedroom and the private kennel yard behind the cabin.

The warm, patterned milestone finished floors accent the Southwest decor and colors.

What is there to do near Española?

One of the best things about Española is LOCATION! Española is right in the center of northern New Mexico and within 45 minutes of all of these places of interest - and more!.

  • Golfing - the best New Mexico Golf course is right down the stree! Black Mesa Golf Club, according to Golf New Mexico Magazine is "a great course that tests both the mind and the body" "From the first tee shot you realize that mental strategy is essential, while the course's expansive fairways and greens allow it to be played more easily than it appears." You can walk or rent a cart - and -all equipment is available for rent. Very reasonably priced and the golf course is owned by Santa Clara Pueblo and uses recycled and reclaimed water for water conservation. My sons LOVE to golf here in the WINTER, too!
  • Taos - Galleries, Shops, Museums, Restaurants - 45 minutes north.
  • Santa Fe - Galleries, Shops, Museums, Restaurants - and just 1/2 hour away!
  • Española - Low rider capital of the world
